Or Olam’s 2018 spring concert celebrates Israel’s 70th birthday.

The program features timeless favorites, songs of the Jewish immigrant groups that give Israeli music its special character, settings of texts by Israel’s legendary poets and selections of the contemporary music that’s been thrilling Eurovision audiences and concertgoers worldwide.

Or Olam’s Cantor Shiree Kidron will share the stage with acclaimed Israeli vocalists Omer Shaish and Adi Kozlovsky, pianist Hila Kulik and percussionist Ronen Itzik. The concert will be followed by a reception featuring the flavors of Israel.

Join us for tonight’s special concert which will highlight the influence of Spanish folk music on the rich heritage of Sephardic Jewish music.

Cantor Shiree Kidron will perform this hauntingly beautiful and emotive program with acclaimed classical guitarist Nadav Lev, accompanied by renowned musicians Adam Fisher, cellist, and Rex Benincasa, percussionist. The concert will be followed by a reception.

Tzav Pius – An Israeli non for profit “start up” created a paradigm of coexistence aiming to bridge religious and social divides among Orthodox and Secular Jews in Israel. A successful prototype have created a quiet cultural revolution, where more and more Israelis are finding ways to see ‘the other’ as one of them and is now awaiting a wide scale roll out.

In honor of Martin Luther King Day, this month’s Musical Kabbalat Shabbat will have music with an African-American flavor and include texts from the Hebrew scriptures that inspired our nation’s most important champion of civil rights. I will be leading the service together with Rabbi Eugene Wernick, and will be joined on the bimah by wonderful guest musicians.

As always, this service is free and open to all, with a festive reception immediately following. If you are not a member of Or Olam, please register in advance so we can know how many people to expect.

This time we will have a Sephardic style Kabbalat Shabbat. Rabbi Eugene Wernick and Cantor Shiree Kidron will be joined on the bima by esteem musicians: Bouzouki player Avram, Pianist Gillian Berkowitz and Percussionist Seido Salifoski for an evening of traditional prayers and soulful melodies from the rich tradition of the Sephardic Jewish musical repertoire.

Musical Kabbalat Shabbat is free and open to all. The service is followed by a festive reception.
